"A little over 50,000 children are internationally adopted each year by American families. "Growing Up Adopted" is a short documentary following three adoptees experiences growing

up in a transracial family. My inspiration came from my own experiences being adopted and also having been raised in a transracial family. Adoption is a lot more complicated than you

might think and everyone’s story is unique. My hope is that after watching these interviews and hearing their stories, people will have a better understanding of some of the unique

elements of this experience. Recently I have been exploring my own adoption and reconnecting with my birth mother. Doing this project has allowed me to dive deeper in my own feelings and reflect on my experience of being Guatemalan and growing up in a white family. Talking to these individuals has shown me that I am not alone in what I am experiencing." -- MIA PARDO
